Travelling...

Yesterday was a long day...
I woke up at eight o'clock this morning but turned my alarm onto snooze and slept for a further twenty minutes before pulling myself out of bed and into the shower. Once showered and dressed I began to pack all the necessary things for my stay with my dad. My train was due to leave at two thirty so we left for the station at about twenty to two, however the motorway was clogged up with traffic forcing us to take the back roads. On the back roads we got stuck behind two tractors and one funeral concession, it looked like I was going to be missing my train and would have to get a new ticket for the next one. So we called up National Rail who told us, much to our surprise, that my train had been delayed and had not yet stopped at the station. Thankfully I got to the station just before my train and was able to get on easily.
However, the train was jam packed and more people were getting onboard. There was no space on the luggage rack at the front of the carriage so I had to put my massive suitcase in my leg room whilst I sat cross legged on my seat. Luckily the girl to sit next to me said I could move the case between the two of us so I would have leg room and she could put her legs half in the isle. We started talking after laughing about our struggles to get to the train on time etc. and I learnt her name was Rachel and she had been looking at universities nearby. She showed me a few pictures of universities on her phone and we chatted a bit before we both put on our headphones and listened to music. She got off two stops later and a man with a laptop sat in her place, we didn't talk much. As the afternoon got hotter I got hungrier and my wish for more legroom grew. Finally a few stops before mine the refreshment trolly came round so I bought a kit kat to last me until dinner that night. I was so hungry I didn't savour it, I just ate it down in a few bites. I started listening to music again and started to feel excited as I was almost at my stop, but the train then pulled to a stop and remained stationary for about five to ten minutes in the middle of nowhere. I wouldn't usually mind, but I was cramped into a small space, with no air conditioning, I was still pretty hungry and I needed the bathroom.
Finally I arrived at my stop, almost leaping off the train when I saw the station. I grabbed all my bags and belongings and was one of the first queued up by the train doors. Once off I spotted Di, who I would be staying with for the weekend. We hugged for ages and then walked back to her car, chatting and making up for all the time we hadn't seen each other. After dropping my bag at her house we went to our friend Jackie's house, where she was looking after her niece and nephew, Hattie and Alex. Hattie , five years old, has so much energy it is unbelievable, she always needs to play or do something! Alex, twelve years old, was more quiet and was happy playing on his phone or chatting to us. For dinner we had homemade pizzas, although the bases weren't homemade as there wasn't enough time. Alex and Hattie made their own, meaning they were stacked high with cheese, ham, tomatoes and sweetcorn. Whereas Jackie made Di's and mine, which must have been difficult as the kids had used up most of the ingredients! The pizzas were amazing once they were done, and much needed after a long day!
After dinner we all sat around the fire pit in the back garden, it was good fun as we all sat and chatted whilst Hattie did some colouring, although all my clothes now smell of smoke. We didn't stay there too late and once home we watched a bit of television before going to bed. Despite the train journey it was a good day.
